Reading: We are currently reading "Grace and the Time Machine". Yesterday, we Skyped the author, Mary Hoffman, about her story. Unfortunately, the video is too large to post on the blog. I'm working on finding a different way to share it with you. There will be a test next week on the story with a focus on the skill "Drawing Conclusions". Check your child's planner for a test date.
Writing: A compare/contrast essay will be the focus of writing for the next couple of weeks. Students will learn how to write about similarities and differences of a sibling, cousin, friend, etc. We are learning how to utilize appropriate transition words, word study, and grammar concepts in our writing.
Word Study: We are taking a test on Cycle 9 today. On Monday, look for the Cycle 10 words to come home.
Social Studies: Chapter 4 is all about the territory of Ohio and how several groups are interested in obtaining that land! We are creating cause/effect T-charts about the many wars that take place in our 5-Subject notebooks that will be assessed on the Ch.4 test. We will also take a closer look at how timelines are developed. Please read over Ch. 4 with your child at home.
Technology Lab: Students are researching famous African-Americans and creating a Glog about them in honor of Black History Month.
Math/Science: Check Mrs. Voinovich's and Miss Ivons' blogs.
Misc:
**The Valentine's Party will be on Monday, February 14th!
