Walking the Number Line in Math

Classroom Updates!

Classroom Updates

I hope you are enjoying the changing colors of the leaves. As the days are getting chillier, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for school. This may include a light jacket as the weather can be unpredictable at this time of year.

Subject
Learning Targets and Activities for week of:  10/5-10/9
Reading
We are moving into informational text and making inferences using scientific, technical, and historical text. We are also focusing on what happened and why, based on the information in the text.  We will take a mini-summative on these skills Friday, October 9th.
Writing
In writing we are learning how to add dialogue to our personal narratives. Students are discovering interesting speaker tags to use when writing dialogue such as bellowed, hollered, and remarked.
Grammar- We will continue to work on commas and quotations.
Word Study
No Excuse Words: sure, knew, it’s, try, told
Feature Words: athlete, halfway, English, complete, inspect, children, create, trial, cruel, idea
Change in date:
Word Study Homework due-Wednesday, Oct 7th
Quiz: Wednesday, October 7th
Math
We are continuing to prepare for our summative on 10/6 on multiplicative thinking in story problems, equations, and pictures. We will then begin understanding measurement and place value for our next unit.
Homework due Friday, 10/9.
Content Areas
Social Studies:  We are studying how where we live affects how we live. Students will be examining the land regions of Ohio and sorting the land by physical and human features. We also began examining the newspaper Ohio Studies Weekly (OSW). These newspapers are similar to TFK in which students are expected to read articles, answer questions, and code questions with an RT (right there), TS (think and search), AY (author and you), or OMO (on my own). Discussing the land regions of Ohio has helped prepare us to begin studying changes in the Earth’s surface in science. We will be building landforms out of clay as a first experiment.
