Word Study: We are currently studying Unit 8. The pattern deals with el and le words. The assessment will be given on Friday. Homework will also be coming home today which will be due on Friday.
Reading: Students have been finishing up their literature circles they started with Mrs. Pelka. After we wrap those up, we will be working on the anthology story, “Grace and the Time Machine”. The skill students will learn is “drawing conclusions”. This means to use clues to figure out an educated guess as a solution to a situation. After some anthology work, we will then go back to another novel study.
Writing: Students finished up a “How-To” writing piece. This quarter we will be learning how to write a compare/contrast essay. Also, students will learn how to write “show me” not “tell me” sentences. Word choice will be our trait focus.
Social Studies: I have seen the results of the students’ posters and powerpoints from Ch. 3. They worked extremely hard on those – great job everyone! This week will be reviewing the Ch. 3 test, and will begin Ch. 4. In ch. 4, we will learn more about cause and effect and discuss the many wars that take place between the Indians, American colonists, and the British to develop the new frontier. Additionally, we will be exploring how to create and use a timeline!
Technology: Students will be learning how to access my blog and be creating a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel to utilize formulas to solve multiplication and division problems.
